Overview

The Applications Engineer and Project Manager shall be routinely involved with all aspects of assigned projects for Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing & Welding, and Advanced Arc Welding Systems. The AE/PM shall generate proposals for the Sales department with a primary emphasis on machine additive manufacturing & welding applications.  The AE/PM will also work with the engineering, manufacturing and test departments to facilitate the project management activities for the company, and this person shall provide an efficient communication link between staff, customers and visitors.  This job description indicates the general nature and level of the work that is expected.  It is not designed to contain a comprehensive or all-inclusive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities.  Other duties may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Primary Responsibilities

     

    • Processes equipment RFQs and write proposals for the company. Outline/highlight any special areas in buyer specifications to comply with buyer’s requirements, and formulate/direct the execution of the associated proposals.  
    • Work with sales and engineering in the research and gathering of information related to the preparation of equipment design details, costs and specifications, direct initial concepts and identify application specific challenges.
    • Upon contract awards, directly support the project management work efforts, and act as the technical and contract liaison for the customer
    • Ensure that contracted specifications are adhered too during execution of the assigned contracts, and that the projects are maintained within targeted timelines, schedules and costs.•
    • Coordinate internal and external design reviews and teleconferences interfacing with customer personnel on assigned projects. The AE/PM will be directly involved in all assigned internal project meetings and be the designated liaison for Sciaky engineers to forward information, questions, and requests to customer personnel.
    • Support customers in laboratory work related to welding applications.
    • Provide overall technical understanding of the project goals and act as a channel of communication between all the involved parties, both technical and contractual.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Welding, Metallurgy Engineering or equivalent
  • Welding / Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technology - Experience with AM systems, electron beam welding, and/or gas tungsten/plasma arc processes, with a fundamental metallurgical knowledge preferred
  • Welding / AM Systems - 5+ years of technical and manufacturing experience in welding systems, process automation, sensors and controls
  • Machine Controls - Knowledge of CNC machine equipment, vision systems and sensor technology with an emphasis on welding
  • Production & Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models
  • Writing - Excellent writing skills with a strong emphasis on welding technology and related technologies
  • Engineering & Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
  • Project Management -Good communication and organizational skills. Effective at team management, project discovery and planning.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Motion Control Systems - experience proposing, designing or utilizing servo control technology
  • General working knowledge of CAD modeling systems.
  • Knowledge of developing and securing government contracts
